Try “Laughter Yoga” at the Seniors Center | Around the city


On Wednesday October 20 at 3:00 pm, Certified Laughter Yoga Trainer Linda Hamaker of “Let’s Laugh Today” will show you how to bring more laughter into your life without using comedy, jokes or humor! This unique exercise of laughter and applause with gentle breathing will bring more oxygen to the cells of the body. You can sit or stand, and there are no fancy poses. Linda will show you how you can add more laughter to your life and how you can use laughter to relieve your stress. Register in advance to reserve your place.

The VanGo Discovery Club will take place on Wednesdays from 10:15 am This club offers you the opportunity to get away from your daily routine while exploring a new community. Participants travel aboard the VanGo to a new area for independent, self-guided exploration of 3-4 hours each and return to Foxboro around 4:30 p.m. For the month of October, we will go to the following locations: bike path / hole in the woods on October 6; Colt State Park / Bristol, RI October 13; Newport, RI October 20 and; a winery to be determined on October 27.

The cost is $ 5 per person and you must register and pay in advance.

If you are traveling with us on our trip to Lancaster, Pa in October, join us for a meet and greet in Lancaster on Thursday October 7th at noon. It’s been 2 weeks since Paul Revere took his legendary midnight ride and his wife Rachel has only heard from her husband once. Still isolated from each other due to the siege of Boston, Rachel desperately tries to create a plan to safely remove her children from the reach of the British regular army in Boston. Join us on Wednesday October 13 at 4:30 PM for the “Date with Rachel Revere” show produced by History at Play and you will help Rachel as she carefully considers the dangers and demands of each plan. Find out if Rachel is successful in her perilous mission to unite her family in the midst of an American Revolution. Have you ever wanted to learn to play Mah Jongg? Or has it been several years since you haven’t played and you would like to get back to your level? This 7 week course taught by Edie Erickson will meet on Wednesdays, October 13 – December 1 at 12:30 p.m. Edie will teach you all the basics of this rather complicated game, and at the end of the course you should be able to join the regular Mah Jongg groups here at the senior center.

Many seniors who viewed the feasibility study requested that they be shown the potential location of a new senior / community center. Anyone interested in visiting the 3 sites should join us at the “Auditorium” directly behind the public safety facility on Payson Road at 2pm on Wednesday October 13th. Register in advance so we know you’ll join us.


Howard Johnson created an orange-roofed empire of ice cream stands and restaurants that stretched from Maine to Florida. Join us on Wednesday October 6 at 4:15 pm to enjoy a root beer float while listening to historian and author Anthony M. Sammarco tell the story of Howard Johnson’s 28 flavors of ice cream, “Tendersweet” Clam Strips And other delicious, traditional foods you’ve enjoyed! Register and we’ll save you a spot.


Starting in September, on Thursdays, we will be offering Grab and Go Senior sandwiches at the senior center. You can pick up your sandwich at reception on Thursday anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and you can take the sandwich with you, or you are invited to eat in the Coffee Room or on the outdoor benches. Quantities are limited, so you MUST pre-register to get your Senior Sandwich meal. There is a suggested donation of $ 3 to HESSCO.


Our next lunch outing will be Wednesday, October 20 at 1 p.m. at the Olive Garden restaurant. Call us to register before Monday September 27th and meet us at the restaurant on September 26th. For those who require van transportation, arrangements must be made before Monday 27th.


Take a trip out of town for a few days and join us on our trip to Lancaster, PA October 25-27. and learn about the centuries-old traditions of the Amish. This trip will include: round-trip coach transportation; 2 nights at the historic Cork Factory hotel; guided tour of Amish farmland; private reception wine, cheese and paint; tickets to “Queen Esther” at the magnificent Sight and Sound Theater, and; 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners. The cost for this tour is $ 560 per person for a double, $ 510 per person for a triple, and $ 715 for a single. The cost of optional travel insurance will be $ 70 per person and must be included with your payment. Call us to register if you would like to join us.


The next Veterans Club meeting will be on Monday October 4 at 2:30 p.m. The mission of the Veterans Club is to create a listening session around Veterans and their stories to ensure that this living story will never be forgotten. In addition, important veterans issues will be discussed under the direction of Foxborough Town Veteran Services Officer Ally Rodriguez. To comply with regulations, coffee and donuts will temporarily not be served. Registration is required to allow the installation of the furniture.


Come join us for Bingo at the Seniors’ Center on Tuesday, October 5 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and every 1st Tuesday of the month. Win cash prizes of varying amounts. There is a nominal fee of $ 1 per card. Bring a friend! Call to register. This program is organized by the Friends of the Elders of Foxboro.


Our Seniors Center Book Club will resume its meetings on Monday, October 4 at 11 a.m. This program is designed for older people who just enjoy reading or listening to books on tape. If you are interested in participating in the Book Club, call Christina at 508-543-1234 to register in advance. Weather permitting, we can move the meeting outside to the picnic area to soak up the sun.


On Wednesdays, October 6 and 20, hearing clinics will be offered from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This program is free and will include hearing screening, earwax removal, hearing aid cleaning and service by appointment. Call ahead to schedule a 20 minute appointment.


Are you a shrewd person? Are you interested in learning a new skill? Helen Rice hosts her famous card-making class at the Seniors Center on Thursday, October 14 at 2 p.m. and every 2nd Thursday of the month. All supplies are included, and at the end of the class you will have a beautiful homemade card for a future event! Please register in advance.


Tuesdays, 8:30 am to 9:30 am, start your day with peaceful meditation and Tai Chi movement with instructor Elijah Swain. Elijah is a 9th degree black belt and owner of Tai Jing Academy. Zumba is a fitness program inspired by Latin dance. Zumba combines Latin rhythms with cardiovascular exercises to create a fun, easy-to-follow aerobic routine. Join us Tuesday mornings at 9.45am. The cost is $ 3 per class and is eligible for the punch card. Space is limited, please call ahead to register for each class.


You can get health insurance information and assistance through the Serve Everyone’s Health Information Needs (SHINE) program. A SHINE advisor is available on Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a “virtual” appointment by phone or in a Zoom appointment. This program provides free, confidential health insurance advice and assistance to Massachusetts residents who are or will be eligible for Medicare and their families. Call for an appointment.
