The Bishop’s Stortford beauty salon and clinic owner is celebrating after the business that started life at her kitchen table won three prestigious industry awards.
Kristina Carter opened Flavo, at Millars Three in Southmill Road, in 2017, just 10 months after she started offering home beauty treatments in her spare time to make ends meet.
Working as a marketing manager for a City law firm, she was traveling to London and struggling to pay the rent.
And doing treatments for two clients a night “to survive” saw her reputation grow rapidly and led her to quit her day job and open Flavo, a short walk from the train station. The name of the salon is a term for yellow, bringing brightness and success.
Having become her own boss without financial support, Kristina, 28, now has a team of five dedicated and highly qualified staff – including her sister Jana – working with her at her premises in Stortford.
They offer all artificial beauty treatments such as nails, eyebrows and eyelashes, and medical aesthetics, including anti-wrinkle treatments and threads. The price list is divided into four categories so that customers can choose a technician according to their budget.
She still has clients from her early days who work in her spare time at home and also has many celebrity fans, including Jodie Marsh who posts on Instagram about her trips to Flavo.
Kristina grew her business step by step. She launched a training academy after graduating as a teacher, added clinical treatments to her list of services and developed an online store that sells her own range of products.
After being named Beauty Training Specialist of the Year at the London & South East Prestige Awards 2021, Kristina’s team had an even better night at this summer’s party taking home the beauty salon titles, Aesthetic Clinic and Beauty Supplier of the Year. The salon was also finalist for Clinic of the Year at this year’s UK Hair and Beauty Awards.
“We have a great, professional and very well-trained team with different personalities and levels to meet people’s budgets and expectations,” Kristina said.
“We are open six days a week and three nights until 9pm. Being only two minutes from the train station, we are in the perfect place to stop by after work for treatment before heading home.
“Our sterilization and cleaning processes are very thorough between each client and, being a clinic, we maintain the highest standards.
“We’re also very quick to respond to customers and very active on social media. People can just message us and they’ll get a quick response.”
Kristina is also proud to have been employed by a dental practice in Potters Bar to provide medical aesthetic services.
