A new yoga/meditation studio opened in LaGrange on Friday.
The Center for Mindful Exploration has opened on Garfield Street, in the heart of the historic community of Hillside.
The studio offers meditation and yoga classes in addition to workshops on skills such as balancing empathy. Studio owners Susan Marshall and Joanne Rogers seek to help clients use their yoga and meditation skills to improve their mental and physical well-being, they said.
They held yoga classes at various locations, including St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and the Beacon Brewery prior to its inception, for several years as they attempted to establish their own base of operations. The two taught aspects of yoga and mindfulness in their counseling office on Mooty Bridge Road, but began to move as space and COVID-19 issues arose.
“We couldn’t have a full-time studio before,” Marshall said. “It’s always been when [and where] we could find a space.
Rogers grew up in the Hillside neighborhood for more than 30 years and watched the changes, noting the efforts of DASH, a neighborhood revitalization nonprofit in LaGrange.
“A lot has happened since DASH came along,” Rogers said. “It was my dream to have this business here. I didn’t think we would have this space or that there would be a space at Hillside.
Clients can register and pay for yoga and meditation classes online at https://mindfulx.site/mindfulness-based-workshops-and-classes/.
Pre-registration is required. Online courses and private sessions are also available. In June, Marshall and Rogers will be offering a free community-wide meditation once a month.
