Whether you are a novice or a seasoned yoga practitioner, you will find your home at Yoga NoHo Center.
The unofficial motto of NoHo is: “NoHo is only as great as its people”. This winter, we’re spotlighting some of our super creative neighbors in the NoHo Arts District. This week features Yoga NoHo Center, a wellness center in North Hollywood.
Yoga NoHo Center is your neighborhood studio offering modern yoga with in-depth yogic study, chiropractic, massage and spiritual healing. The Yoga NoHo Center first opened its doors in 2014 and we are all thrilled to have them fully reopened.

What makes NoHo Yoga unique… I know you come from the dance world?
Yoga NoHo Center is the only yoga studio in Los Angeles that offers both far infrared heat (with hardwood floors) and traditional unheated yoga, all styles of yoga such as Kundalini, Gentle, Power, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative and Amazing Yoga. Certified teacher training, workshops with established teachers who studied in India, and retreats around the world. I was a professional dancer for 18 years and had the chance to work with legends such as Bette Midler, Madonna, Michael Jackson. So when I decided to have kids, yoga was a natural progression and I combine dance with yoga in all of my Vinyasa Flow classes.
What are the benefits of doing yoga regularly?
Unending…. because yoga is a practice of mind, body and soul, not only will they improve every aspect of their physical body, but they will become emotionally focused and now more than ever after being locked up for two years , I have seen people come to yoga for a moment of peace and clarity. When I lead my 200 hour yoga teacher training, I always tell my students at the beginning of the course, “You may be taking the course to teach, but you will finish the course knowing who you really are and how great you are.” you can be awesome. with an endless thirst for life. People finally have the chance to take the time without all the noise and chatter to find out who they really are. Many, if not all, of my students make life-changing choices after class. So it’s endless.
Since yoga is so good for you, why are people hesitant to take a class?
Well, I think they have this idea that “I have to be flexible”, or “I’m out of shape” or “I’m too heavy” or “I don’t have time” or “I’m not not vegan”… The list goes on and on. In reality, because it is a practice of your “Mind Body Soul”, none of the above matters. If you have a real yoga school that cares and understands the real philosophy of yoga, the mantra should be:
“Come as you are, our job as a yoga studio or as a teacher is to provide space for you to be and grow.”
What made you choose NoHo to open your business?
I (Karen Russell) now own Yoga NoHo Center and have lived in this community, and have owned my first yoga studio, Yoga Groove, in the Arts District since 2001. I support the arts because I believe that an arts district is vital for a community to thrive in a big city like Los Angeles.
Owner Karen Russell has organized a team of knowledgeable, thoughtful and inspiring teachers, doctors and healers to answer your questions. [email protected] | (818) 761-1705
