New Beauty Salon Spotlights Black-Owned Businesses in North Las Vegas

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The month of August is all about celebrating black-owned businesses.

The owners of a new wig salon are planning a grand opening Saturday in North Las Vegas – and share their path to success.

Haith and Henry Johnson, owners of Le’Host Hair & Wigs, are rapidly expanding their business. But they faced challenges along the way.

The two started this journey over 20 years ago.

“I had a girlfriend who was diagnosed with cancer when she was 27,” Haith said, “and at 32 she passed away. It touched me so much that I was like, ‘ What could I have done to be part of his journey?'”

Growing their business together has been a blessing, the two say. But when the pandemic hit, they found themselves in an unimaginable place.

“We closed our doors and couldn’t let people through,” Henry said. “We just had to go from just a storefront, and now it’s a storefront as well as online.”

During the pandemic, the couple said they had the opportunity to showcase their hair care products at Walmart, and they did.

They were refused, but decided to try again – and succeeded.

“We applied again, they said yes,” Haith said. “They gave us 400 stores. We now have two products across the country in over 25 states.”

The grand opening of Le’Host Hair & Wigs will be at Walmart (1807 W. Craig Rd., North Las Vegas, NV 89032) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
