Mold celebrates another new venture in the form of a beauty salon

A BOOMING town Flintshire has welcomed another new business to its ever-growing list.

The empty store vacancy rate in downtown Mold is currently below 6%, which is significantly lower than the rest of the country.

The city has welcomed more than 50 new or expanded businesses in the past two years, the latest of which is Meraki Beauty Ltd.

Owners Melissa Watkinson and Monica Jones are thrilled to open their own salon and had the support of clients, family and friends at their grand opening.

Melissa said: “After I had my son Leo I was working in a supermarket and the hours didn’t fit in with my family commitments so I decided to train as an eyelash artist and I have to say that is one of the best decisions of my life.

“I first started using my guest bedroom as a living room and it was while I was doing a client’s lashes that I noticed her amazing nails and she told me that Monica did them , after which I met Monica and we hit it off straight away.

“After a while we decided to go into business together, so I took the plunge and quit my job at the supermarket to become a full-time freelancer. Monica and I have been working together for four years , renting rooms in a few salons in the city.

“Over the years we’ve built up a loyal following, so when the shop at 84 High Street (formerly Tammy’s Barbers) became available, we decided to take the next step and go. Meraki Beauty was born and we are so happy with the transformation of the salon.”

Monica said: “I have been in the beauty industry since 2014 and became independent in 2018, when I was just 21. When I met Melissa I was working in a salon in Mold. We have both have the same drive and determination which is what you need to make a successful business together.

“We chose the name Meraki Beauty because both of our names start with M and Meraki also means ‘doing something with passion, with absolute devotion, with undivided attention’ and that’s what we all feel. two about our work.

The Mayor of Mold, Councilor Haydn Jones, said: “I was delighted to be invited to officially open the new salon and it was a pleasure to meet Melissa and Monica. Both ladies are very welcoming and you can see that they are passionate about what they do. salon has a great modern vibe, my wife Liz was very impressed.”
