‘Mermaid Squad’ at downtown beauty salon cares about customers

Making Waves Beauty is hosting a Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday; “We are so grateful to have been able to come out on the other side of COVID”

Now that the masks have been removed and COVID-19 restrictions have eased, the Making Waves Beauty salon in downtown Thorold is having a big reopening party on Saturday.

“Throughout COVID, I’ve managed to grow my team and add new departments,” says owner Marysa Reid, in an interview with ThoroldToday. “Now that there are no more restrictions, we wanted to host a customer appreciation open house to celebrate our reopening.”

Reid founded the beauty salon on Front Street in 2019. Over the years, she has built up a group of beauty specialists who help her offer a wide range of treatments, such as laser procedures, whitening of teeth and facial care.

“We call ourselves the ‘Mermaid Squad,'” Reid explains. “We are just a team of mermaids helping you achieve your aesthetic goals. We are like a small family. We are always very supportive of each other. It was really awesome to be able to go through all of this together, just having each other’s support was really awesome.

Because of COVID-19, the two years were difficult, according to Reid.

“The beauty industry has been hit hard,” she says. “When we reopened at first we were limited and couldn’t do any services on the face, even eyelashes and everything, you couldn’t touch the face at all.”

Now that restrictions have eased, business has boomed again.

“It’s much better,” she said. “There are a lot of new people in the neighborhood, even on Front Street, you can tell that foot traffic is slowly starting again. Sometimes we have people who still don’t know that we can deal with services now because it’s been so confusing.

To celebrate the reopening, the beauty salon will offer many different promotions on Saturday.

“We’re going to have refreshments and really good packages,” Reid said. “We offer complementary services: laser hair removal on small areas, we do mini-facelifts, we will also offer door prizes and a raffle basket.”

There will also be a non-perishable food drive to donate to Community Care. Reid says it’s the least she can do for the local community who have been so steadfast in their support.

“I never imagined I would have a team,” Reid says. “Especially with COVID, we’ve still been able to grow, grow and add new services. We’re really grateful to have been able to come out on the other side of COVID and we’re still here.

Making Waves Beauty is located at 46B Front Street. The Customer Appreciation Event will take place this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
