In 2004, 2nd Nature beauty salon opened in Newington Road, Ramsgate, until boss Carole Benson moved to Cyprus in 2007.

Mum-of-two Carole then ran her business in Cyprus while working in salons and for Thomas Cook as the company’s bridal makeup artist. She was also mandated by a veterinarian to massage racehorses!

In 2016 she moved back to Ramsgate and last weekend 2nd Nature reopened in her original home at the Newington Bridge store.

Carole, 64, said the decision to return to the venue was prompted by the pandemic and the closure of beauty businesses during this time.

She says: “I opened the beauty institute in 2004 and we were delighted to be selected by a university training center.

“I trained in aesthetics from an early age and have continued to update my qualifications ever since. My passions are holistic therapies, which include various types of massage, from Indian head massage to lymphatic drainage Swedish and Manual, which is beneficial for anyone suffering from edema caused by excess fluid trapped in body tissues.

“I am thrilled to have the team join me at 2nd Nature.”

Carole also offers sinus drainage, Hopi ear candles, manicures, pedicures, waxing, tinting and other beauty treatments.

The reopening of 2nd Nature took place last Saturday (July 2) with Ramsgate Mayor Raushan Ara cutting the ribbon.

Cllr Ara said: “I was delighted to attend the reopening of the 2nd Nature Hair and Beauty Salon. It’s wonderful to see new businesses opening up all over the rest of Ramsgate as well as our town centre.

“A huge thank you to Carole Benson and her wonderful team, who supported her in reopening the business in Newington after 18 years. I wish Carole and her team all the best for a successful business.

“I have been a hairdresser for over 20 years. I began my journey as a permanent makeup artist four years ago after one of my hairstyling clients received an areola tattoo after undergoing a mastectomy following a battle with cancer. I was fascinated and wanted to be able to offer this incredible treatment.

“I trained with Karen Betts who is one of the biggest artists in the industry in the world. Starting with permanent makeup for eyebrows, lips and eyeliner, I then evolved into medical tattooing and more recently trained to become an aesthetic practitioner.

“I’m constantly updating my skills by taking masterclasses to make sure I have all the knowledge to deliver the best. I’m slowly moving away from hairdressing to be able to deliver confidence to people every day and I’m more so happy to have joined the 2nd Nature team to offer the same to their clients.I will be offering permanent make-up and medical tattooing, aesthetic treatments, beauty treatments including microdermabrasion and micro-needling.
