Beauty salon owner charged with killing wife, fellow man in Avondale

A suspect has been arrested after police say he shot and killed his wife and another man at a beauty salon in Avondale.

Just after 3 p.m. on September 11, officers responded to reports of a shooting at Ema’s hair and beauty salon near Central Avenue and Madden Drive. It was there that they found an unidentified man and a woman who had been shot.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, Jose Jesus Rodriguez Parra, was arrested and imprisoned.

“The investigation revealed that the suspect, Jose Jesus Rodriguez Parra, co-owner of the salon with his wife, entered the salon and shot her and a grown man,” police said.

Parra is charged with two first-degree counts murder.

Fatima Luna worked at the salon over the summer and says that Ema Rodriguez, the woman who was killed, was a good person, it’s not fair that this happened to her.

She says Ema was kind, well-liked and respected by many in the community.

“I don’t know what she did, like her personal stuff, but she was very nice to me and to those around her,” Luna said. “It’s very unfortunate.”

Ema’s son, Jonathan, says the suspect is his stepfather.

“I want to make it clear that this was a family issue that went wrong. Even though I know my stepfather did something wrong, I know he wasn’t thinking,” did he declare.

Ema’s son has apologized to the other victim’s family.
