A former stay-at-home mom has opened her own salon and won a national award – just two years after she decided to take her training. Alisa Matthews, from Packmoor, has now opened her salon, Alisa Jade, on Ford Green Road, Smallthorne.
She started the Alisa Jade nail practice at the start of the lockdown in March 2020 and is now skilled in nails, eyelashes and micropigmentation. She’s also hired an extra person who plans to offer spray tans, and Alisa is also taking an extra course so she can tweeze and tint her eyebrows.
The 32-year-old lives with her husband William and has three boys and two stepsons aged 18, 13, 10, nine and five.

Alisa said: “I opened the salon on Wednesday May 4th. I saw the building for rent and went to have a look. It was offered to someone else at the apartment. time, but a week later they messaged me and said it fell through.
“I spoke to my husband and we decided to do it – it was like fate.”
Alisa also came second at the 2022 Social Media Hair and Beauty Awards for Nail Technician of the Year. She also made the final of two other awards.
“When I won the award, I was super excited. I hadn’t been in the industry for too long,” she said.
“To be able to reach second place is amazing. I was happy to be in the final. My family is so proud of me. All the boys now want to work there.
“My youngest wants to do eyelashes. It’s good that they’re so proud and they got to see me achieve something. I hope it inspires them.”
